The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) and the Government of China (State Council Leading Group Office on Poverty Alleviation and Development) are organizing a high-level international conference on “Taking Action for the World’s Poor and Hungry People” on October 17-19, 2007, in Beijing, China. This conference will bring together leaders in government, civil society, development organizations, business, and research from around the world to deliberate on innovative ways to accelerate the reduction of poverty, vulnerability, and hunger.
An international competition is being held to identify and invite leading doctoral students working on poverty and hunger to this conference. PhD students working on issues related to poverty and hunger are encouraged to submit an application outlining their research and the relevance of their work to the theme of the conference. Around ten applicants will be selected as IFPRI 2020 Vision Doctoral Students and invited to attend the Beijing conference in October.
