PHD POSITION: Environmental Governance, Land Use Change in Java (Indonesia)

The Center for Tropical Marine Ecology in Bremen (ZMT) is an independent research institute linked with the Leibniz association. A PhD position, starting October 15th 2007 or soon thereafter is available as part of the social sciences team. The candidate will contribute to the ongoing Indonesian-German SPICE programme (Science for the Protection of Indonesian coastal ecosystems) as part of its research on "Livelihood strategies and governance in coastal social-ecological systems". The candidate will work in Bremen/Germany and carry out field research in Central Java/Indonesia, with a strong focus on the Segara Anakan Lagoon and its surroundings. Comparative work in other regions of Java is possible.
