FELLOWSHIPS: The World Forestry Institute (WFI) International Fellowship Program
The World Forestry Institute (WFI) Fellowship program brings professionals in natural resources to conduct a practical research project at the World Forestry Center. In addition to projects, fellows participate in weekly field trips, interviews and site visits to Northwest forestry organizations, research labs, universities, public and private timberlands, trade associations, mills and corporations. The Fellowship is a unique opportunity to learn about sustainable forestry from the Pacific Northwest forestry sector and to work with colleagues from around the world. Fellowships are open to all countries.

PUBLICATION: World Resources 2008: Roots of Resilience
World Resources 2008: Roots of Resilience-Growing the Wealth of the Poor argues that income from sustainably managed ecosystems can act as a stepping stone in the economic empowerment of the poor. The report describes the ingredients to well-designed, community-based enterprises that improve economic well-being while restoring and enhancing the natural resources that generate income: creating a sense of ownership, developing the local capacity for resource management and entrepreneurship, and building dynamic networks and connections. Ultimately, these programs can make their communities more resilient to climate change and the other economic, social, and environmental challenges they will face.

ONLINE RESOURCE: Social Dimensions of Climate Change website
The Social Development Department of the World Bank is delighted to announce the launch of a NEW Social Dimensions of Climate Change (SDCC) website (www.worldbank.org/sdcc). The website keeps audiences up-to-date on activities and publications focused on the social dimensions of climate change from the World Bank Group.

CALL FOR ABSTRACTS: Conference on the Human Dimensions of Global Environmental Change
You are invited to the 2009 Amsterdam Conference on the Human Dimensions of Global Environmental Change, to be held 2-4 December 2009.
This conference will be the ninth event in the series of annual European Conferences on the Human Dimensions of Global Environmental Change, begun in Berlin in 2001. This year's conference will also be the global launch event of the Earth System Governance Project, a new ten-year research programme under the auspices of the International Human Dimensions Programme on Global Environmental Change (IHDP).

CALL FOR EVIDENCE: The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity (TEEB)
The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity (TEEB) initiative draws attention to the local and global benefits of biodiversity and to the social and economic costs of biodiversity loss and ecosystem degradation. It is a cooperative effort of researchers from North and South, led by Pavan Sukhdev (UNEP) and funded by the EU and several governments.
They are looking for studies, case descriptions and personal accounts (both published and unpublished), that deal with the potential, the implications and the caveats of applying economic valuation tools at local and regional level. Your response will inform the TEEB D2 Report for Local and Regional Policy Levels which is intended to offer orientation for sub-national policy makers and stakeholders.

CALL FOR PROPOSALS: African Fellow Programme
The Rothamsted International African Fellows Programme is now inviting pre-proposals under its 9th Call.
The aim of the African Fellows Programme (AFP) is to support sustainable agriculture in sub-Saharan Africa by catalysing innovative solutions needed to achieve food security. Projects should focus on specific problems in agriculture with a researchable constraint. For this call, Fellowships will be for a maximum period of 6 months.

CALL FOR PROPOSALS: 2009 Development Marketplace on Climate Adaptation
The World Bank has launched the 2009 Global Development Marketplace call for proposals on Climate Adaptation. The 2009 global competition is funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and additional DM partners. It aims to identify 20 to 25 innovative, early-stage projects addressing climate adaptation. The competition focuses on three sub-themes: 1) Resilience of Indigenous Peoples' Communities to Climate Risks 2) Climate Risk Management with Multiple Benefits 3) Climate Adaptation and Disaster Risk Management

EMPLOYMENT: Country Directors for Ethiopia, Mali and Uganda
The Sasakawa Africa Association is seeking three dynamic agricultural development professionals to serve as its Country Directors in Ethiopia, Mali and Uganda. SAA Country Directors (CDs) work within a matrix management system that includes a number of staff in management-related positions – the two Executive Directors (Programs and Management); the Managing Directors (MDs) of SAA and SAFE; the five Program Directors (PDs) for Crop Extension, Post-harvest Extension, Public/Private Partnerships, Human Resource Development and ME&L; and the Director of Strategic Opportunities (DSO). CDs must respond to and collaborate with all these various actors, but they report administratively and are primarily responsible to the SAA Managing Director based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

CALL FOR PROPOSALS: Women's Access to Land in Latin America
ILC is supporting the Platform on Women's Access to Land in Latin America. Within this framework, the ILC is launching a research contest in Latin America on the following issues:
- Laws and regulations related to women's rights to land and natural resources
- Role of women in rural economy and food security
- Rural women and access to the property of land
Regarding the contest:
- The ILC will grant five research fellowships, each one of $5,000.00
- Proposals have to focus on one of the three research issues above.
- Contest is open to ILC members and partners, as well as to organizations with experience in social research.
