CALL FOR ABSTRACTS: International Conference on Collective Natural Resources in Post-Conflict Zones within the African Great Lakes Region
The Conference will take place in the city of Bukavu (Eastern DRCongo) from February 6 to 8, 2012.
The African great lakes region ( including Rwanda, Burundi, DR.Congo), has been crossing a very long period of armed conflicts ending to strong Natural resources mismanagement. Especially, collective natural resources underwent the deteriorations and depredations and, and the inefficiency of public institutions in charge of the natural resources. In fact all these institutions have been weakened so that they don't assume their roles anymore.
Facing this challenge, two non -governmental organizations, namely ADISCO (of Burundi) and DIOBASS (from DR. Congo), have defined joint collaborative project involving relevant academic and research institutions in the South-Kivu province and Burundi as well, with a strong focus on sound environmental governance linked to collective natural resources.
With the financial support of the International Development Research Center ( IDRC), the project has developed multi-institutional approach based on Participatory Action Research that have been adopted for the restoration and the rehabilitation of the collective natural resources.
The project has promoted lessons to learn and challenges and opportunities to share!
The International conference to be held in Bukavu in 2012, is seen as a larger room and open windows for sharing knowledge about Environmental governance in fragile ecosystems! Welcome to all participants from diverse backgrounds!
Deadline for abstracts: October 15, 2011
