EMPLOYMENT: Senior Climate Change Adaptation Specialist, International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development
The International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development, ICIMOD, is a regional knowledge development and learning centre serving the eight regional member countries of the Hindu Kush-Himalayas – Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Myanmar, Nepal, and Pakistan – and is based in Kathmandu, Nepal. Globalisation, climate change, and socioeconomic changes have an increasing influence on the stability of fragile mountain ecosystems and the livelihoods of mountain people. ICIMOD aims to assist mountain people to understand these changes, adapt to them, and make the most of new opportunities.
The strategic programme ‘Sustainable Livelihoods and Poverty Reduction’ (SLPR) houses ICIMOD’s socioeconomic competence. It monitors and analyses the poverty situation and its main drivers and helps to develop policy-relevant information. It promotes climate change adaptation strategies that help alleviate poverty by providing sustainable livelihood options for mountain people in the context of rapid socioeconomic and environmental change. To achieve this, ICIMOD are seeking to recruit a Senior Climate Change Adaptation Specialist. In view of the above, ICIMOD is looking for candidates with expertise in adaptation to climate change, including the international state of the art in this research field, policies, lessons learned and best practices applicable in the HKH.
