EMPLOYMENT: Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Program Officer - Program Advocacy

The Bill & Melinda Gates foundation is looking for a Program Officer for Program Advocacy.

The Global Policy and Advocacy (GPA) Program seeks to understand and shape the public policy debates affecting the Foundation's work, build support for its major program and policy objectives, and develop partnerships and alliances that can advance the Foundation's policy objectives nationally and globally. Because the Foundation's resources alone are not enough to solve the challenges ahead, GPA also supports advocacy efforts to engage diverse stakeholders and promote innovative solutions that advance our program goals. GPA is composed of our country offices in India, China; our Europe team based in London and our US & Canada team based in Washington, DC; our country representation in Nigeria, Ethiopia, and South Africa; a Program Advocacy team; a Policy Analysis & Financing team; and our Charitable Sector Support team. We work in close partnership with grantees, our colleagues in the Global Health and Global Development Programs, the CEOs office, and Foundation Communications to build the environment in which all people have the opportunity to lead healthy and productive lives.

The Program Officer (PO) will be a leader and a team player in the implementation of these goals, with a specific focus on the foundation Nutrition strategy, and its links with our Agriculture strategy. The PO will work closely with the full Global Policy and Advocacy team, the Nutrition team and with the Agriculture team to develop and execute an advocacy strategy, forge new partnerships, and develop grants.

The PO will play a critical role in managing high impact and complex partnerships, grants, coalitions, and advocacy campaigns. She or he will provide expertise in developing policy and advocacy strategies; conducting research and analysis to drive investment decisions; and drafting high level briefs for foundation leadership. The PO will bring a depth and breadth of experience in and knowledge of donor and developing country governments' development activities and mechanisms, and technical expertise in evidence based, results oriented advocacy.
