EMPLOYMENT: 2 Postdoctoral Research Assistant Positions, LSE Grantham Research Institute

The Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment at the London School of Economics has vacancies for two postdoctoral research assistants.

Postdoctoral Research Assistant (SAHEWS - Southern Africa’s Hydro-economy and Water Security)

From £27,115 – £31,385 pa incl.

Fixed term for two years

The Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment is pleased to invite applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher to work with Professor Declan Conway. SAHEWS is a two-year collaborative research program, which aims to realise opportunities for more effective water management in Southern Africa by addressing crucial knowledge gaps and integrating climate information with better understanding of economic linkages in water, food and energy. SAHEWS is a collaboration between the Climatic Research Unit and Water Security Research Centre (University of East Anglia, UK), International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI, CGIAR, USA), and the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR, South Africa).

The position is based in the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment (GRI). Candidates should have a PhD in Geography, Climate Change, Environmental Economics, or a related discipline, or be very close to completion of their PhD by the post start date. Good communication skills are essential, as are experience in quantitative data collection and statistical analysis. Experience of multi- or interdisciplinary research in one or more areas of climate, water, energy and food and qualitative (including interviews) data collection and analysis are desirable.

Postdoctoral Research Assistant (Centre for Climate Change Economics and Policy; adaptation and decision-making in the water sector)

From £27,115 – £31,385 pa incl.

Fixed term for two years

The Centre for Climate Change Economics and Policy is pleased to invite applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher based in the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment (GRI). The successful applicant will work in collaboration with Professor Declan Conway (GRI) and Dr Dave Stainforth (GRI) and Professor Suraje Dessai (Leeds University, Sustainability Research Institute, SRI).

Candidates should have, or be very close to completing, a PhD in Environmental Science, Geography, Climate Change Adaptation (or related disciplines) with a focus on water. Good communication skills are essential, as are experience in quantitative data collection and analysis. Familiarity with modelling, either programming or using established software packages is desirable. Experience of multi- or interdisciplinary research in one or more areas of climate, water, energy and food and qualitative (including interviews) data collection and analysis are desirable.

The appointees will be expected to play an active intellectual role in the life of the Grantham Research Institute and with staff at LSE and other universities.
